You will need 3 things for the Saran wrap manicure- Saran Wrap (also known as plastic wrap or cling wrap), and then a polish for your base color and one for your top color.
Step 1- Paint your nails with your base color (I used China Glaze Rougish Red) and allow this to DRY COMPLETELY before moving on.
Step 2- Paint over your base color with your top color (in this case, China Glaze Sky High-top).
Step 3-While the top color is still wet, take a small, scrunched up ball of the plastic wrap and do one 'dab' on top of the wet polish. This will pull off some of the top color and reveal the base underneath. This method works best if you do one nail at a time (paint with top color, dab with plastic wrap, move on to next nail and repeat).
Here were my results:
As you can see, it gives you a pretty cool marble effect! I found that doing one good "dab" with the wrap gave me better results than repeatedly dabbing more than once. I love the idea of all the different color combos you can come up with using this technique. So simple and pretty!
Have you ever tried the 'Saran Wrap' mani?

I would've never thought to put these colors together! And how did you get yours to look so perfect!?
ReplyDeleteI owned a bathing suit YEARS ago, and it was a red/orange color with turquoise flowers...I was thinking of that with my color choices for today! Far from perfect! Hahahah I think it helped that I only did one good "smoosh/dab" with the wrap...i tried it differently on my thumb and i didn't like how it came out.
DeleteI love the colors together! They are so unique - and when I tried a Saran Wrap I dabbed it multiple times and it just became a blob. I ended up adding so many more layers to it just to make it look decent. Needless to say, it wasn't!
ReplyDeleteHahah too funny! I cant wait to experiment more with this!
DeleteThis looks great!! You and Rachel both tried techniques I didn't even know I could do. I have to try it this way the next time. Love the blue and red together.
